  • 107-year-old great grandmother, Saltanat Akbari, becomes the oldest person in Iran to beat COVID-19. See, this virus ain’t that bad, eventho it’s a single case, this shows that age isn’t a factor of weakness, having diabetes is worse than being old.
  • Iran has reported 2,180 new COVID-19 cases and 58 new deaths, raising the country’s total to 135,701 with 7,417 confirmed deaths.

  • Singapore confirmed 642 new cases today (May 23), bringing the total to 31,068.
  • Iraq has confirmed 308 new COVID-19 cases and 5 new deaths, raising the country’s total to 4272 with 152 confirmed deaths. This is by FAR the largest number of new cases reported in the country so far. (Source)
  • France has confirmed 393 new COVID-19 cases, raising the country’s total to 144,556 with 28,215 confirmed deaths.
  • Trump says that he identifies “houses of worship – churches, synagogues and mosques – as essential places that provide essential services”, adding that he will “override” governors that don’t open up places of worship; EHA
  • India will unlock air travel on 383 routes across the country with new rules after a two-month gap, the government announced on Thursday. (Source)

  • There are 45 labs capable of testing for SARS-Cov2, 27,573 is the daily testing capacity, however 27,998 samples were tested yesterday.
Due to the pandemic, the government will be cancelling all official events in 2020.
  • Apparently if you haven’t gotten a letter from the police station to travel inter-state for the Raya, you can’t now.
  • A Malaysian had been sentenced to death over Zoom in Singapore for having heroin. It sucks that some drugs are illegal and some are legal, who has the final say? (Source)

Singapore school students are to return to school in stages where pupil of different cohorts, those are graduating soon will be prioritized.

  • Californian scientists at Sorrento Therapeutics said they have found an STI-1499 antibody that completely blocks coronavirus.
  • About two months ago, the Sorrento team started analyzing hundreds of antibodies from their library and found about a dozen that blocked the virus that leads to COVID-19 from infecting human cells. Now, from that dozen, they say they’ve found one that is 100% effective after a period of four days of incubation.
  • Belgium tops the world with the most deaths proportionally to their COVID-19 cases, with an observed case-fatality ratio of 16.4%. And with a population of just 11.5 million, Belgium has the most deaths in terms of its population with 78 deaths per 100,000 people.

Number of new cases continue to be under 3 digits but its not decreasing as much as we want. Perhaps this virus will not be gone from our community until we build herd immunity towards it like other viruses such the flu.
