MCO Question of the day: Are the numbers from COVID even accurate? It seems that the number of cases rise with the number of tests, the virus spreads regardless. We are finding out that the virus isn’t all bad to majority of the people anyways.

  • Italy has confirmed 531 new COVID-19 cases and 50 new deaths, raising the country’s total to 229,858 with 32,785 confirmed deaths. Zero deaths has been reported in Lombardy, the previously hardest hit Italian region.
  • Singapore confirmed 344 new cases today (May 25), bringing the total to 31,960. (Source)

  • India Health Ministry: Asymptomatic patients without fever cannot infect others. (Source)
  • The French government is strongly discouraging citizens from taking foreign holidays this summer due to the coronavirus but people can already start booking vacations at home in France in July and August, the environment minister said. Guess the French know more than anyone else. (Source)

  • Russia on Sunday reported 153 coronavirus deaths over the previous 24 hours, the country’s highest daily toll so far, raising total fatalities to 3,541.

  • The deputy director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Shi Zhengli—a virologist renowned for her work on coronavirus in bats—warned in a new interview that viruses being discovered now are “just the tip of the iceberg” and called for international cooperation in the fight against epidemics.

  • 107-year-old great grandmother, Saltanat Akbari, becomes the oldest person in Iran to beat COVID-19. See, this virus ain’t that bad, eventho it’s a single case, this shows that age isn’t a factor of weakness, having diabetes is worse than being old.
  • Iran has reported 2,180 new COVID-19 cases and 58 new deaths, raising the country’s total to 135,701 with 7,417 confirmed deaths.

  • In the past 24 hours Chile has reported 2,278 new COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths, the highest number of coronavirus fatalities in a single day so far, according to the country’s health ministry.
  • Californian scientists at Sorrento Therapeutics said they have found an STI-1499 antibody that completely blocks coronavirus.
  • About two months ago, the Sorrento team started analyzing hundreds of antibodies from their library and found about a dozen that blocked the virus that leads to COVID-19 from infecting human cells. Now, from that dozen, they say they’ve found one that is 100% effective after a period of four days of incubation.
  • Belgium tops the world with the most deaths proportionally to their COVID-19 cases, with an observed case-fatality ratio of 16.4%. And with a population of just 11.5 million, Belgium has the most deaths in terms of its population with 78 deaths per 100,000 people.

Day 61 MCO – 17th May Malaysia CCP Virus COVID-19 Update

Another day another dollar. New reported cases are getting lower and lower as even though the number of testing has remained steady. This is a good sign in handling the pandemic, however I am skeptical that the scientific community will be able to produce a vaccine in a year and half while we are 17 years away from the SARS epidemic and we still have zero knowledge regarding producing a viable vaccine.

It’s the first day back to work for me on an alternating staffs schedule where half the office comes in 1 day and works from home the next day. Do you think this works or do you think we need longer stretches of time so we don’t actually alternate days increasing the risk of more people touching the door handles. Or does it even matter since we are going to be building immunity to this virus anyways?

  • Top infectious diseases expert Anthony Fauci will Tuesday warn the Senate the United States will see “needless suffering and death” from the coronavirus if it tries to reopen too soon, The New York Times reported. Fauci again tries to use the top down approach which I think it doesn’t work in the long term. We ought to stop eating crap to improve our own health.
  • Germany has confirmed 110 new coronavirus cases and 5 new deaths today, raising the country’s total to 172,686 with 7,666 confirmed deaths.
  • Saudi Arabia has confirmed 1,911 new coronavirus cases and 9 new deaths today, raising the country’s total to 42,925 with 264 confirmed deaths.

Today is the final day of the supposed MCO and many are going back to work tomorrow including myself.
